The Director's Desk
I see needs all around my community; financial, emotional and spiritual. God used this to bring me into a ministry where the resources and programs are designed to help people meet their greatest need, to know Jesus as Lord and Savior.
Mt Hope has published a year end financial for the past 5 years.
Financials and reports do not come easy to me, but I have learned to
appreciate them as a tool and guide in financial stewardship. Each
year, the process teaches me something about stewardship and how God
provides ordinary people at an ordinary camp their needs in
extraordinary ways. Let me share just a few with you:
- In 2002, a total of 65 campers attended all programs at Mt Hope with $910.00 applied towards camper scholarships. In 2007, 550 campers attended all programs with $13,000.00 applied towards camper scholarships. This generous giving allows us to continue to sponsor over 1/3 of our unchurched campers that cannot afford the cost of camp or are not sponsored by local churches.
- The installation of brand new high efficiency heat pumps, cut our dorms average utility bills by 50% and eliminated damage to the interior because of leaky roof’s . This project was accomplished through financial donations, volunteer work days and discounted supplies.
- A restricted donation allowed us to buy age specific bibles to give to every camper in need or want of a new bible.
Most people are familiar with the Bible story of the feeding of
the five thousand. Jesus had compassion and love for a large crowd
of followers who had no resource of food. A little boy offers his
ordinary, thread bare lunch to Jesus. Jesus miraculously multiplies
the food, everyone eats and there still remains left-overs to be
gathered up. I can identify with that little lad. As a group of
like-minded believers, we give in various ways. up what we have in
faith, trusting that God will do extraordinary things to meet
people’s needs, just as He has for the last 56 years in His ministry
at Mt Hope.
